Early
morning wakeup for blogging and writing beat writers about Unbound.
After a great breakfast, Geoff drove us to the subway station which
is quite close to their home. We bought a day pass and rode into the
downtown area, transferred one and got out in search of St. Lawrence
Market. It is an old historic market with fruit, meats, cheeses,
bakeries, vegetables and seafood. It was fun to watch people doing
their Saturday shopping. We walked by some historic buildings and
then went in search of a bank with an ATM. On the way we passed by a
place where they were filming a movie. We couldn't really see
anything and I got scolded for trying to take a picture. They film
many movies in Toronto.
We walked around Rogers Centre and then
headed into the Steam Whistle brewpub and had a sample of the one
beer they brew. It was quite good.

We headed back to the ballpark. We stopped at the ticket window as we had read that if we had a 500 level ticket we would not be able to access other levels of the field or concessions. Customer service assured us that we could so we went to guest services and talked to them briefly about Unbound and got our 1st time visitor
paper. We ended up buying a hamburger to eat which was actually
quite tasty with 18 choices of condiments. Piled high, a full meal!
We talked to one of the ushers in the 100 level and told him about
our road trip. We also talked to a really fun and nice young man, Todd, who works
in the Canadian military and we ended up chatting through most of the
game. We talked to him about our trip, baseball and Unbound. He
was very knowledgeable about baseball and players on many teams.
After a few innings of standing at the rail, the usher subtly came up
to us and told us we could sit in the empty seats in his section.
How nice was that? Everyone we have encountered on our trip has been
nice, but I have to tell you Canadians are REALLY nice, they take it
to a new level!

Mariners fans, Does this guy look familiar? We saw him get something he
rarely got in Seattle, a double and 2 RBI's |
After the game, we said goodbye to our new friends
(Todd gave us his souvenir glass) we walked down to the waterfront
and then started looking for the subway. We needed to use the
restroom so stumbled across this very nice grocery store that had a
bar in it. We had the most amazing stout beer ever, aged in whisky
barrels for several years and a peameal bacon slider, a Toronto
treat. Too bad we can't get the beer anywhere. We found the subway
and rode up toward Chinatown and wandered around. We stumbled upon a
television (again in search of a bathroom) and were able to catch the
Belmost Stakes. A triple crown for American Pharaoh!

After Chinatown
we strolled through Kensington Market neighborhood which was a very
interesting and eclectic place, including many ethnic restaurants and
shops. It was busy on Saturday night. Finished our eating with ice
cream. Jodi managed to lose our subway ticket, so we are batting
1000 for problems on the subway. I guess it must be us as they
really are simple. We loved hearing all the accents everywhere and
different languages and cultures in this international city. Home on
the subway and a quick walk back. Another fabulous day!
