Long Island

 Day 49
After a short workout (nearly killed me) and breakfast, we packed up, and headed out to the next big city, New York, New York. Luckily this time we got advice from Jeannine and Beth and followed the right roads and parkways, so didn't have all the big trucks through most of the route. Our next stop was with friends Anne Marie and Jeff who live in Valley Stream, Long Island. We met them on our trip to Mexico last fall with Unbound. They sponsor a brother and sister in the Merida project and have been doing so since they were very small.

They took us to Jones Beach State Park which is a huge park on Long Island that was originally designed many years ago to simulate a cruise theme. It has a beautiful theater with the stage on the water where big name stars play. We walked the boardwalk for 2 miles which was brand new as the old one had been destroyed in Hurricane Sandy. The beach is wide and flat here and there were many people out. It was a lovely walk.

Anne Marie and Jeff are preparing for a walk that runs between England and Scotland in just a few weeks. Anne Marie cooked us a beautiful dinner and they showed us their photos of the Camino de Santiago de Compostello that they have done on 2 separate occasions..Their photos have provided food for thought. It sounds like a life changing pilgrimage.
