Highlights from San Diego and La Jolla

We started the day with breakfast in Nancy and Ted's kitchen sharing stories of travel and life. We wandered around Balboa Park and went into one musem that had a visiting painting by Raphael called Madonna with the Pinks. It typically hangs in the National Gallery in London. We were fortunate to see it here, very beautiful. We then watched the planes overhead as they headed into San Diego airport. We then drove and parked and walked around Mission Beach. We were trying to find a trail to the ocean itself, but never did. We headed up to La Jolla to Nan's, had wine and almonds and a lovely dinner.
The next day we had a great breakfast with Nan at The Cottage. We love this place and always make a point of coming here whenever we are in town. The food and service are top notch.  It is also very nice to be able to sit outside to eat!   One time last winter when we were here, our waiter noticed that Jack had on a Seahawks shirt.  It was right before the Super Bowl.  The waiter told us that the coaches from The Chargers used to come in for breakfast but he hadn't seen them in awhile.  Not more than 2 minutes later, the owner of the Chargers walked in and sat down with one of the strength and conditioning coaches and sat in the booth right next to our table.  The waiter came over and said, wow, this is weird, I should have bought a lottery ticket!  When we were here this time, the waiter remembered that day, so funny.
Jack and I took a long walk around our typical La Jolla route down to the Children's Pool and up through town.  It is such a beautiful community.
Beautiful La Jolla

So nice to be able to stay with Nan and see our sights in La Jolla and spend time visiting with her.  It was hard to say goodbye the next day. I am very happy that she has so many friends here. We drove out to Mount Hope cemetery to try to find my Dad's grave. After directions from Nan, the GPS and a phone call to Reid, we think we found the spot. Unfortunately, the cemetery does not have its books up to date and we could not find the grave marker, but hopefully, it is still waiting to be laid. It was a lovely place on a hill with a view of the Coronado bridge.
We drove over that bridge to have lunch with friends we met over a year ago on a trip in the Gulf of California, Rocky and Linda. They treated us to lunch at the golf course where Rocky had just shot a 71. Way to go Rocky! It was so lovely that they made time to see us, and was nice to hear of their adventures since we last saw them, scuba diving in Yap with gigantic manta rays and Linda's recent trip to France with her girlfriends. Who knows, maybe we will get to travel with them again. Forgot to take a picture so here are memories from the Mexico trip.

  1. I loved visiting La Jolla! My sister and I ate breakfast a cute little place right across from the cove where all the seals hang out. Everyone at Unbound is enjoying following along on your trip! Safe travels. :)
