Day 1 - another child sponsored!

April 8, 2015
Day 1

On the road again!!! Arose at 5 am to do last minute packing and cleaning. Photographer arrived at 6:45 to take pictures of us and our car for a story about our trip that hopefully will appear in the News Tribune to help us get more sponsors for the Unbound children. Kevin Trucco stopped over to wish us well on our trip and we hit the road about 8:10. First stop House of Donuts to get our traditional roadtrip fare of fritter for Jack and maple bar for Jodi. After all, we do have our priorities!

Started reading the Ultimate Baseball RoadTrip book to learn about the Oakland stadium. This is a great book with lots of fun information about the history of the teams, the ballparks, parking, food and things to do.

As we were traveling, we got an exciting text letting us know that one of Jodi's friends had sponsored Daniela! 3 sponsored, 27 to go! Daniela and her family will be so very happy!

The next stop we made was at Smith Rock State Park. This is a beautiful place with magnificient rock towers with a river that runs through it. It was world class rock climbing there. We saw several climbers there. Mallory and I had hike here over 10 years ago when we took a family trip to Sun River. Jack and I hiked it in reverse, going up Misery Ridge first. That got our heart pumping. That is a good thing to try to burn off some of those donuts! Very pretty view from the top of Misery Ridge of the surrounding high desert.

We then stopped at our Affordable Travel Club(ATC )hosts house to drop our bags off before going into Bend to get dinner. We stayed in a beautiful home outside Bend on a large piece of property that was constructed out of concrete, the home of Karen and Chuck and their sweet dog Cashman.
Their home was beautifully designed with many fabulous art pieces by Chuck, a talented artist.  We had a glass of wine/beer with Karen and had a lovely conversation with her and then went into Bend and ate . Bend has grown since we were last here but still very charming.
