Eureka Springs/Arkansas

Friday, August 24, 2012
Said goodbye to Greg early this morning as he was going golfing.  Betty made us delicious blueberry, cream cheese stuffed French toast, fruit and coffee before sending us on our way.  Hopefully they will take a cruise to Alaska and stay with us on their way up.  Amazingly nice people.  We love our travel club!

Drove to Eureka Springs and walked around this old, lovely town full of shops, and history.  There are many natural springs here, so people used to come for healing.  It would be a great girls weekend town. We had some coffee and a cookie in town.  We could have spent more time here but had a distance to travel.

Stopped in a small town as they were selling peaches.  I foolishly thought they would be local.  Instead they were from Washington!  Too hard, so we didn’t get any.  Also stopped at this antique store and chainsaw carving place to take pictures of the red Razorbacks.    Sooooey!

Drove to Gilbert, a tiny town on the Buffalo National River and waded and walked through the very low river.  It is the only National river in the entire USA, protected by the National Park Service.  When the water is higher, people enjoy canoeing and kayaking the river.

.  Arrived in Damascus just before 4 and are staying with Gloria, another amazing Affordable Travel person.  She lives on 82 acres of forested land in a beautiful house.  Very beautiful and quiet.  She had made bread and cookies and offered wine.  We drove to a little restaurant about 12 miles away and had steak for Jack and an amazing BBQ pork sandwich for Jodi.  They smoke their own meat.  Yum, but I simply have to stop eating the French Fries!    Oh my, I will gain 10 pounds by the time I get to Texas or maybe before.  Tropical storm Isaac brewing around Haiti.
