The plane, The plane!

Off to Hackensack or as the Minnesotans say "we're going up north" to the cabin. I am so excited.  That place has a part of me there. My grandmother bought the cabin in the early 1950's and she had it until she was in her mid 80's when my mom bought it from her.  I have so many memories of growing up there with my family, swimming, fishing, boating and just being outside.  My grandma had a huge vegetable garden and raspberry patch and lived there most of the summers after she retired and spent the rest of the year in Minneapolis.  She was an amazing woman and one of my favorite people.  She would do a little dance on her front step when people came to see her because she was so happy to see people. We arrived about 15 minutes before Mom and Darrell and starting setting up our tent.  Those nasty mosquitoes are out in full force.  Jack and I walked into town and we all (including Corny and Judy) all ended up at the 7th Day Adventist thrift store.

We all got up as we had to be to Hide-A-Way for our Plane Ride!  Mom and Darrell arranged for all of us to go on a float plane ride, 2 groups of 5 with  my  Mom, Darrell, Aunt Judy, Jack and I got to go on the first flight.  We flew toward Woman Lake.  We could not believe how many lakes are in this one little area, plus all sorts of beaver ponds.

The owner, John, of Lake Country Air Service,www.lakecountryairservice.com was away in Japan so Ted, a retired United airlines pilot flew the plane. He has a place on Webb Lake and sometimes flies to Chicago for dinner.  He and his wife are from there.  He was very interesting and pointed out all sorts of things, including the Gold Coast on Woman Lake (million dollar homes) with all sandy beaches, the smallest and biggest island in Leech Lake.  We flew initially over Big and Little Birch and then over Hackensack.  Jack spotted the ball field in Hackensack.  It was fun taking pictures and quite an experience.  We were in the air a little over ½ hour.  I got to sit in the front seat.  We all wore headsets for noise and to be able to communicate with the pilot.  It was really fun, a really nice treat!  Then the second group got to go of Uncle Corny, Melanie, Tom, Quinton and Rachael.

A great time was had by all!  Thank you Mom and Darrell!
