Target Field home of the Minnesota Twins

Day 78

Happy Birthday Jack! My husband turns 61 today, I am very grateful for him and this fun trip he planned! We woke up at 4:30 to hit the road to get to Minneapolis for the noon game. We got into Minneapolis by 10:15. We were able to find a parking place very close to Target Field, but we had no idea how close we were until we started heading there. We were hoping to find the Loon Cafe and after we got out of our car we saw it was right across the street!

Target Field was built on a smaller space than normal as they had to acquire downtown space in order to do it. It is right next to Target Center which hid it from our view. We followed the crowds and were surprised we were so close.

Instead of red brick, Target Field is built with Minnesota Limestone

Jodi took pictures of the players she remembered from her youth growing up in Minneapolis and being a Twins fan. We even found a picture of Bob Allison who was our neighbor 3 houses down back in the days when baseball players were ordinary people making just a little bit more than ordinary people.

We partook in a dollar dog at the park. We enjoyed the display in center field of Minnie and Paul which is the emblem for the Twins. The guy who designed it received $15.00 for his work. Yes, you read that right. Minnie and Paul represent the Twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul shaking hands over the Mississippi River which has it's headwaters in Minnesota and divides the two cities. I think this is the most unique board we have seen along the way. It would have been nice to see it light up at night but with a noon game on a sunny bright day it was hard to see the lights.

This was the second shortest game we attended, running just 2 hours and 20 minutes with a Twins victory over the White Sox.
