Sunday,
April 12
The
day has finally arrived for number 1 out of 30. We are excited to
begin and lucky to be able to see the Mariners play at Oakland. We
drove to Oakland and found Ginger's beautiful home in the hills of
Oakland. She wasn't home, so we had to figure out how we were going
to get to the Coliseum. We drove down to the Fruitvale BART station
and decided we didn't want to leave our car with all our stuff in it
here. We drove to the Coliseum and foolishly pulled into the first
paid parking we found. This guy was running a lot for $10.00. Not a
bad price, but there was only 1 other car there. The location was
good, right by the walkway into the Coliseum. He kept saying, I have
lots of regular customers and that he would stay the whole game and
for a half hour afterwards and “trust me, trust me, trust me”.
Well we trusted him, but Jack was a wreck. We then saw the stadium
parking and Jack almost went back to move the car. We should mention
that when we went to mass at St Rose's it was Divine Mercy Sunday.
They were giving out 8 by 10 pictures of Jesus. I left him alone on
the dash of the car, hopefully to help keep her safe. I hope that
isn't sacrilegious. We walked all over the Coliseum and took lots of
pictures, and Jack fretted as we looked out at the real Coliseum
parking. He tried to leave to see if our car was still there but
there was no re-entry here. I tried to calm him and we eventually
settled into some seats and enjoyed a Louisiana hot sausage from
Saag's. Great treat. There were quite a few fans today but we never
did find the sits we paid for but wandered all over the field
spending the last 3 innings behind the Mariner's dugout. Great photo
ops and lots of Mariner's fans. Had some great conversations and an
all around great day. I am happy to report our sweet little Accord
was still there completely intact.
Robi's expression when he sees us in the stands, yea right! |
We
tried to get a hold of Ginger but she wasn't home yet so we went to
Safeway and walked around Holy Names University. Ginger called so we
went to meet her and moved our stuff in. We sat and had a glass of
wine with her and enjoyed the view of the by and San Fran, 2 bridges.
She grew up on a dairy farm in Idaho and was a retired legal
secretary. She was leaving on a road trip on Wednesday, the day we
were leaving. What a sweetheart to host us. She encouraged us to
make ourselves at home and to use her house. So kind. She
recommended the Montclair district to eat, so we went up there and
had some great Mexican food.
I
I hate it when I go out! |
Nice homerun, Nelson |
