So, tell me, does parental guilt or worry ever stop? I doubt it. In the past 2 weeks all 4 of our children have had problems and here we are having a good time. What's a parent to do except worry, pray and try to help from afar? Are they trying to tell us something?
First of all, oldest son Chris is with oldest daughter Leslie, Brandon and grandson Jackson in Cannes, France. Chris had never been to Europe and Leslie and Brandon took him along. The first night he was there, he got up at 4:30 am to get Jackson who was fussing, slipped on the tile, cut his eyebrow open and had to go to the hospital for 6 stitches. He has been fine since.
Last week, youngest Nick called saying he couldn't move his neck, and hurt so bad he couldn't go to work. I knew he was in trouble when he said he was going to give away his Husky football ticket! I tried to give him some physical therapy advice from afar, and luckily one of my friends and colleagues was able to see him and fix him up.
Next, Mallory, has been trying to move to Seattle. Most of her family has been gone and she is reluctant to ask others for help, so she has been extremely overwhelmed and stressed. She rented a U-Haul truck, and with help from Nick (who wasn't supposed to be lifting), cousin Ben and friends, they got it packed and off to Seattle. 4 1/2 blocks from the new apartment, a tire blew on the U-Haul, she had to wait 2 1/2 hours for assistance and didn't get anything unloaded. This was a Sunday, and she still had to clean her apartment in Tacoma. Eventually she got moved in. Next time, we'll try to be there for you, Mal! Thank God the blowout wasn't on the freeway.
Next we get a text from France that grandson Jackson, is really sick, had been to the hospital at 4 am and had a rash all over his body and wouldn't stop screaming. Luckily he recovered fairly quickly. A day later, Leslie contracted the virus, spiked a high temp, was so weak she couldn't get out of bed. Brandon was so worried, he had a doctor come to their apartment, again at 4:30 am. She is slowly recovering and hopefully will do all right on the flight back home today.
OK guys, we will be home in one more month. Could you please wait until then for any more calamities? We know you are all grown up and can solve your own problems, but it would sure make us feel better if we at least felt like we could try to help!
