Headed to Tucson

Friday, October 12, 2012
Woke up and spent a semi leisurely morning getting ready for our departure from Silver City.  Got Jack and Nancy’s picture before she left and my Jack asked Jack Brennan where he could get an apple fritter.  Jack said he would stop and get 2 for us and bring them to the bike shop.  How sweet.  Said goodbye to Dorothy and departed their lovely home.  We hope we see them again.  Dorothy still has a home on the river not too far from Lincoln City, Oregon.  Maybe we could meet them there or they could come up our way.   Stopped and got the fritters and a double Americano from a coffee shop in town and headed off to Tucson.

Entering the 15th state of our trip
Considered stopping at the Chichaura Mountains but decided to keep going.  Really cool rock formations along the way.  Got into Tucson and found Lynda’s condo.  Really a nice comfy place to call home for the week.  We went to Basha’s and stocked up on food and beverage.  We walked over to Loew’s Ventana Canyon resort and walked around inside and out and up to the waterfall.  Jack really wanted to have  a shrimp cocktail from the Pima Medical gathering!  Walked back and fixed a big salad with baby salad shrimp and avocado and a great bread.  Trying to eat a little healthier for awhile.  Gathered up some reading material from the clubhouses and watched TV and went to bed.  It will be nice to stay in one place again for a little while.  We must be winding down as I keep thinking about getting my house organized and wondering if any of my plants survived at home.  Looking forward to going to Vegas as seeing Les, Brandon and Jackson and taking him to his Halloween party in costume.  I guess we are going to have to go to Fourth street and find one for us too!
Saturday, October 13, 2012  DAY 100!
Woke up and had poached eggs for breakfast.  It seems like it has been forever since we were able to have Jack’s specialty. Started hiking Ventana Canyon with goals to get as far as we had the stamina for.  It was a beautiful cool morning.  The gait to the trail is right beyond the parking lot of the condo where we are staying.  The first mile or so follows a fence which beyond is private property but it is a nice trail through the desert.

Hiking right behind the condo

Beautiful grasses and still some flowers blooming.  After about a mile the trail gets quite rocky and then starts ascending.  As usual we pushed hard but only got 2.8 miles up the trail to Maiden Pools which were pools of water and a sort of oasis in the dessert with greener foliage.  The saguaros on this trail are beautiful and the views up and down the canyon are quite spectacular.  You can see down into the city of Tucson.  I bet it is pretty at night but have no intention of trying to climb this trail in the dark!  Came back down and had our lunch, did some laundry and unpacked and headed off to the pool for an hour and read.  Came back and watched the Huskies give away the game to USC.  They certainly had a chance to beat them but self destructed.  We had Ahi tuna for dinner with broccoli, salad and bread.  Watched a little TV and retired to bed.
